Call For Emerging Artists
Broadway Rose Theatre Company (“Broadway Rose”) is seeking submissions from emerging artists around the Portland-metro area, for “Falling Slowly,” an art exhibition to accompany our upcoming production of Once, which runs October 3 – 27, 2019.
Once is a musical based on the 2007 film of the same name by John Carney following the story of an Irish musician and a Czech immigrant who connect over their shared passion for music on the streets of Dublin. Over the course of one fateful week, an unexpected friendship and collaboration quickly evolves into a powerful but complicated romance, accentuated by the inviting, emotional score that earned an Academy Award, Grammy Award, Olivier Award, and a Tony Award. Featuring all of the original songs from the critically acclaimed film, including the Oscar-winning ‘Falling Slowly,’ this achingly beautiful, joyously uplifting show strikes an unforgettable chord in audiences and speaks to the power of music to connect us all.
“Falling Slowly” invites artists to explore the themes of interpersonal connection, finding strength and beauty in difference, and the power of music to bring people together. Artists should feel inspired to use this theme as an opportunity to reflect on the world around them and within them. Literal depictions of the Once script should be avoided.
Our goal is to share the diverse voices and perspectives of our community, and to support emerging artists and the stories they seek to tell. As such, there is no fee for submitting your work for consideration, and no commission taken off of the sales of works.
