Welcome to the eighth edition of Regards from Broadway Rose! This quarterly newsletter is designed to give our friends and fans a peek at the people and projects behind-the-curtain at their favorite musical theatre company.

The arts are alive and well in Washington County and it’s evident in the strong, actively growing attendance at Broadway Rose’s mainstage shows and unique events. Our 34th season is off to an electrifying start, with our run of 8-Track: The Sounds of the ‘70s nearly sold out before its opening, and a star-studded cabaret for one night only in February! Our team is also busy crafting another unforgettable gala experience; our Prom Gala Weekend is a community builder as much as it is a fundraiser, and we hope you’ll join us for the fun.

When you support a local professional theatre company like ours, you are supporting the economy, nurturing creativity, and contributing to a more vibrant community. I hope the stories in this newsletter remind you of the impact you make as a theatregoer and donor.

Thank you for your continued applause and support!

When you think of the ’70s, a lot of things probably come to mind: bell-bottom jeans, groovy tunes, and of course, macramé. This art form, which was all the rage during that era, plays a big role in the set design of 8-Track: The Sounds of the ‘70s, Broadway Rose’s first show of our 2025 season. But what’s the connection between macramé and the show, and how did this intricate craft come to life on stage?

Improvisation is an essential and often unexpected dynamic element in live theatre. While theatre productions are scripted, improvisation often plays a critical role in maintaining the mantra, “The show must go on.”

By definition, improvisation in theatre involves actors creating dialogue, characters, or scenes without a predetermined script. These unplanned, in-the-moment approach challenges performers to think on their feet, collaborate with fellow actors, and engage directly with the audience.
